Import your Cookie AutoDelete rules
Cookie AutoDelete keeps your whitelist and greylist as a list of expressions and can export them as a JSON file. Auto Delete Cookies on Tab Close reads that file as it is, so moving across takes a minute if you can still open Cookie AutoDelete.
Export the list from Cookie AutoDelete
Open Cookie AutoDelete's settings, go to List of Expressions and click Export Expressions. A JSON file downloads. Newer versions call the two lists the Keep List and the Restart List, older ones the whitelist and greylist; the file is the same either way. It looks like this, with one array per cookie store or Firefox container:
{
"default": [
{ "expression": "*.github.com", "listType": "WHITE", "storeId": "default" },
{ "expression": "bbc.co.uk", "listType": "GREY", "storeId": "default" }
]
}
If Chrome has already turned it off
Cookie AutoDelete is a Manifest V2 extension, and current Chrome no longer runs those, so its settings page will not open there. If you used it in Firefox too, export from Firefox; the file is the same format. Otherwise the list has to be typed in again. The Add box on the Lists tab takes several sites at once, separated by commas, and that works without Pro.
Import it
Importing a file is part of Pro.
- Open the extension's settings and the Lists tab.
- Click Import. Three options appear; tick the first if you want plain entries such as example.com to match only that host, the way Cookie AutoDelete read them, and the second if the file should replace your current lists rather than add to them.
- Choose the JSON file. A message says how many rules were added and how many duplicates were skipped.
How the rules carry over
| In Cookie AutoDelete | After import |
|---|---|
| WHITE (whitelist, Keep List) | Keep always |
| GREY (greylist, Restart List) | Keep until restart |
*.example.com | example.com and all its subdomains |
example.com | The same, unless you tick the exact-host option |
A * inside a name, or a /regex/ | A wildcard or regex rule |
| A list of cookie names to keep | The whole host is kept, with a warning |
| A Firefox container's list | A rule for the whole browser, with a note naming the container |
Export (CAD format) writes your rules back out in Cookie AutoDelete's format, so the move works in both directions.
